Oral Cancer and your dentist
According to the American Cancer Society, 48, 330 new cases of oral cancer will be diagnosed; 9,570- of these people will die of the disease. In Arizona, oral-cavity cancer accounts for about 3 percent of all cancer cases; the rate is the same nationwide.
Recent years have seen an overall decrease in new cases of this type of cancer; however a recent rise in cases has been linked to infection with HPV- human papilloma virus. People with HPV- associated cancer have better outcomes than those without HPV.
Which toothbrush is best for me?
You can’t overestimate the importance of good oral health. Gum disease has been shown to be a major risk factor for the development of serious health issues including heart disease and diabetes. We are taught as kids that brushing is important, but which brush is best?
Our main options are manual or electric; and the hardness of the bristles. First off, always choose a soft bristled brush- the plaque you are trying to remove is soft, and medium or hard bristles will only cause more damage over time.
